The following songs are intense and full of passion about love. Some are in favor while others are not. If you enjoy Valentine’s Day or reject the idea of it, there’s a song for that.
I could have easily made a long list of love songs from The Beatles, Elvis Presley, Bread, or even The Beach Boys, but these rock songs from the 90s and up were yelling out for attention. The following songs aren’t your typical Hallmark Valentine’s Day greeting card.
”Love Bites (So Do I)”
Lzzy Hale, of Halestorm, strikes like a viper in this tune. The song won “Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance at the 2013 Grammy Awards.
I mulled over ”…To Be Loved,” but these lyrics: “Because days come and go, but my feelings for you are forever,” are hard to pass up. A great song by Papa Roach.
“Wait, they don’t love you like I love you,” is what the Yeah Yeah Yeahs express in this emotional song.
“I Don’t Ever Wanna Love”
Black Honey delivers a smooth song with a dramatic music video. “I Only Hurt The Ones I Love,” is another good one that was considered.
“Love You To Death”
American Gothic rock band, Type O Negative, knew how to deliver a dark and depressing song. The deep vocals of Peter Steele, who passed away in 2010, adds to the harrowing experience.
It’s Nirvana. What else is there to say? Their music speaks for itself. “Heart Shaped Box” is another good song for this type of playlist.
“You’re A Liar”
“I’ll just come out and say it,” is what Myles Kennedy sings while a normal looking woman transforms into a hideous liar. You’ll fall in love with the shredding done by Slash. An excellent song by Slash with Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators.
“Love hurts, but sometimes it’s a good hurt and it feels like I’m alive.“ True words by Incubus.
“I Only Lie When I Love You”
Hurtful lyrics, but excellent sounding song by the two man group, Royal Blood.
“Make It Wit Chu”
Musician and director, Dave Grohl, once said that when Queens of the Stone Age are playing a song together, they’re absolutely the best band on the planet. This is a happier song, but I wonder how many breath mints they handed out with all the kissing at the end of the music video.
“And the clouds above move closer
Looking so dissatisfied
But the heartless wind kept blowing, blowing“
I’ve always enjoyed this song by Linkin Park. It comes from a fine album by a fine band that I miss getting new music from.
Thanks for reading and listening. What happy, angry, or sad rock songs would you add?
